Manifesting is the ultimate creative expression. It has everything that a more traditional form of artistic expression has – you start with a blank slate and use your imagination to fill it in. Over time, and with some effort, your masterpiece is created, or your dream is manifested.

Manifesting from a low vibrational state, like when you’re feeling sad, depressed, angry or impatient, is like trying to write a paint a whimsical scene or write a catchy opening introduction paragraph when you’re in one of these low vibe states. It just isn’t going to happen.

Try manifesting that same desire from a high vibrational state, such as when you feel optimistic, happy, grateful and patient, and all of a sudden the process flows with much more ease.

So what do we do?

The trick, of course, is keeping our vibes high during the entire manifestation process – which can sometimes (okay, often) take a bit longer (yes, okay, much longer) than we anticipated. But again, it’s no different to keeping your energy up during the entire creative process, however you express yourself artistically.

We all start off the manifestation process – and the artistic one – in high spirits, creating our vision boards with much gusto and enthusiasm, sticking and glueing and colouring like little children in kindergarten. We even manage to stick to our twenty-minute daily manifestation meditation, eagerly visualising our affirmations as already true for us while passionately chanting “Ah.”

But what happens after that first week or two of enthusiastic manifestation (creation) practice? It dwindles down, doesn’t it? We can feel how our spirit plummets with each passing day as the doubt starts to creep in, and the more we doubt, the sillier our vision board looks.

Doubt is closely followed by impatience, and after a few more days we don’t even notice the little yellow post-its anymore, plastered around the house, reminding us to think positively and in the present tense.

After three or four weeks of trying to manifest something without seeing results, we have no more positive vibes to invest in the process and we’ve lost interest in it all together. The vision board finds itself lying behind a couch gathering dust, together with our dreams.

This can be avoided, though, if we could just keep our energy as high as it was at the beginning of the creation process, all the way through to the day that the Universe delivers us our dreams. Wouldn’t that be lovely? The entire process would also speed up and it would seem almost effortless.

Luckily, there are always things that we can do to raise our vibration and stay aligned with our vision – we only have to be willing to take the action. Once you’ve raised your spirits, inject this positive energy into your manifestation process (through visualisation, meditation, affirmations or whatever else you’re doing).

  1. Laughter and Friendship

Go see a comedy show with a friend, hire a funny movie or watch clips of your favourite comedian on YouTube. Few things raise your vibration quicker than laughter and good company does.

  1. Gratitude

Starting right now, make a point of noticing everything that you already have to be grateful for. Guaranteed, you’ll find at least a few things. Being in a constant state of gratitude automatically raises your vibration.

  1. Nature

Spending time in nature is a quick way to regain your optimism and raise your vibes.

  1. Exercise

It doesn’t matter what kind of exercise you like, but get moving. This is one of the quickest ways to get out of a funk and into a much higher vibrational state. Shake your booty, pump some iron, pound the pavement or challenge a friend to a game of squash. (However, I’m convinced that golf doesn’t qualify as a valid form of exercise, but if you disagree, then by all means, indulge yourself.)

  1. Dietary Adjustments

Eating processed and pre-packaged foods, take-aways, too much sugar, caffeine or alcohol and anything that disagrees with your body, definitely lowers your vibration. Try juicing, eating organic, healthy and fresh food and cutting out some of the stimulants and sugar. Take a supplement if you need it, and drink plenty of water.

  1. Back off

When we try to force our goals to manifest sooner than they should, we can get impatient, negative and angry. Back off and surrender the process to the Universe, and watch your energetic vibes soar.

  1. Reframe Your Thoughts

Watch how your thinking affects your mood. When we think in terms of “Why isn’t this happening?” we can easily get pulled under a wave of negativity. Try thinking in positive terms, such as “What can I do to make this happen? “

  1. Meditation

Meditation without trying to make something happen – just silent breath meditation – can work wonders to snap you back up to a high vibrational level.

How do you keep your energy up during the creative process, from beginning to end?
